French soprano Cassandre Berthon was sweet-toned, supple-voiced and totally winning as Cendrillon, and the Montreal-born tenor Frederic Antoun, while a good deal less subtle in his singing, made a decent shot at the Prince, even if he should have been a "falcon"-style soprano. And while Katherine Jolly's soprano left only a faint impression as the sternly moralistic Fairy Godmother, the robust-toned Romanian baritone Eugene Brancoveanu offered some of the opera's finest singing as Cinderella's... He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Janice Avila of Oceanside; son Alexander Avila of San Diego; daughters Veronica of San Antonio and Cassandre of Oceanside; brother Daniel Avila of San Antonio; sisters Ramona, Alma and Amalia, all of San Antonio; and one grandchild. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. today, Feb. 1, at Mission San Luis Rey in Oceanside. (North County Times)
