" In your July 9 recent page-one coverage of my mayoral campaign, your reporter flubbed my last name by a keystroke. Now, I imagine some of you "Chronikle'' people might not think it really matters if one of the "wacky'' mayoral candidates gets his name mangled, but please understand that some folks like a story to accompany their news, including fact-checked facts and reliable details. So, for the record: My name is (Chicken) John Rinaldi, not Rivaldi. The keystroke error is a common one -- the... (San Francisco Chronicle -- Opinion)

Letters to the Editor  Jul 12, 2007
Editor -- I wouldn't respond to the article about Chicken John ("Chicken John who would be mayor,'' July 9) except that his personal condemnation of the Claes Oldenburg sculpture, "Cupid's Bow,'' implies that all San Francisco artists are somehow in agreement with him. Well, I'm a San Francisco artist, and to be blunt, Chicken John's views seem ignorant and buffoonish to me. (San Francisco Chronicle)

Once Upon a Time Walt Disney 2  Apr 25, 2007
Naturally, 1960's Pop artists like Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg and Andy Warhol were drawn to Disney images. The entire notion of Pop art was a gigantic razzberry to 20th Century art critics like Clement Greenberg, who created a vast gulf between kitsch (artistic opium for the masses) and high art (abstract, expressionistic works that only appealed to a cultural elite). Magritte amuses and befuddles  Feb 19, 2007

And the not-so-obvious: a larger-than-life baked potato sculpture by Claes Oldenburg. For folks who studied Magritte in art history class, you might remember him as the chap who loved painting trenchcoat-clad men wearing bowler hats. (Fresno Bee -- Lifestyle)

Searching for common ground in the cityscape that surrounds us  Jan 17, 2007
Even Cupid's Span in Rincon Park -- that 60-foot-tall bow-and-arrow by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen -- sticks in many local craws. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, it's true; I enjoy Cupid's Span as surely as I scratch my head at the scrap-metal woman and child now loitering near Pier 14 -- a Burning Man relic that's a temporary installation (thank goodness).
