A Path to Purpose Jun 6, 2008
John F. Kennedy's ringing call to unselfish service sounds quaint today: "Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country." Ronald Reagan's description of "the American sound" as "hopeful, big-hearted, idealistic, daring, decent and fair" sounds like something from Currier and Ives, too. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia describes how America is unique in the way Americans characterize themselves in relation to the Constitution. (Townhall.com)

Similarly, there is an overemphasis on the rustic good life, with one chapter describing a feasting and fiddle-playing soiree, the hokeyness of which rivals anything conceived by Currier and Ives. There are two unforgettable set pieces, however, that galvanize this book. (San Francisco Chronicle)

We ran to the wall between the houses --and there was a memorable Christmas scene, though not one out of Currier and Ives. Over the river and through the woods may be the Currier and Ives vision for your holiday plans, but you ll fare better and get to your holiday destination and back safely if you do a little less humming, talking on the cell phone and whatnot and keep your eyes on the road. Cut down on the laced eggnog, too. (Racine Journal Times, WI)

MARTY RUSSELL: Dashing through the dust, in a 500-horse convertible Dec 12, 2007

" As a bonus, the two couples bonded immediately, and consider each other family. This is evident in Lagace's plans to honor her predecessors. She will name the driveway Oktavec Drive at her grand opening. The old homestead, however, still had a few surprises in store for the older couple. Upon moving, they were delighted to find a treasure trove of antiques in the attic, among them a Currier and Ives sleigh, the wringer of a washing machine, old milk bottles, old books and photos,... Still lifes with a modern twist Jun 14, 2007
"Currier, Stubbs, Audubon" has brilliant tropical fish (courtesy of 18th-century illustrator George Stubbs) and delicately patterned birds (Audubon) filling the foreground, while a snowy scene from Currier and Ives makes a romantic background, with a VW Beetle thrown in to bring us up to the 21st century. It's a hodgepodge that feels at once festive and foreboding. (Boston Globe -- Living)
