When Clancey moved into her flat in 2000 all she owned was "a white Eileen Gray chair and a tiny portable TV. I didn't even have a bed, and I used newspaper to make temporary blinds". She toyed with the idea of minimalist living but, she says, restricted consumerism - a prerequisite of minimalism - was not going to suit someone who was "born to shop". (Guardian Unlimited)
