He inserted the Madox as a tribute to his grandfather, the painter Ford Madox Brown, and subsequent books, including The Good Soldier of 1915, were the work of Ford Madox Hueffer. Finally, he changed the Hueffer to Ford in 1919 (two years after the Saxe-Coburg-Gothas had transformed themselves into Windsors). (Guardian Unlimited -- Arts)
