    One of the fair's genuine revelations was the suite of India-ink sketches by Hans Hartung, shown by the Berlin dealer Clemens Fahnemann, who sold 22 of the works on paper for a total of 250,000, with a block of 16 going to the National Gallery in Berlin. Such intricate linear studies often served as precise models for those familiar Hartung paintings of the 1950s and '60s that seem to be executed with such spontaneous verve.     " In the midst of the social and political upheaval in 1949, Chao moved to Taiwan, where he worked as an art professor. In 1956, he travelled to Barcelona, in Spain, on a scholarship from the Spanish Government. So successful was he there that he was made a Permanent Member of the National Art Association of Spain in 1957. Two years later, he settled down in New York.
