The school of hard knocks  Apr 13, 2008
It spans the years between the 1930s and the 1960s, an era in which the term 'American street photography' was defined by the likes of Lisette Model, Robert Frank, Lee Friedlander and Diane Arbus. Movies: A photographer's life transformed into a neurotic fairy tale  Nov 22, 2006
It's instructive that the film doesn't mention that she also studied with the photographer Lisette Model, who was an obvious influence. Prettier Pictures  Nov 6, 2006
In these goings on, there isn t a trace of the Diane Arbus who was friends with many New York artists and intellectuals of the nineteen-fifties, who obsessively studied the work of August Sander and Walker Evans, who took classes from Berenice Abbott and Lisette Model, and who became a highly conscious, fully articulate teacher as well as a daring and even dangerous artist. This Arbus doesn t have an idea in her head, though she sure is a fine lady. (New Yorker)

It was when Tyssen created her Voices of Silence series in 1991 that the artist's European heritage fully informed her vision. (Sydney Morning Herald -- Entertainment)
