    Unusual Spaces  Jul 13, 2008
" Portrait of a young artist Criscitello studied art at the Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute in Utica, which houses a collection of modern and contemporary art rivaling that of the Everson in Syracuse. He recalls his early artistic practice as heavily influenced by developments taking place in the early nineties, which he articulates as 'a shift from the glamour of the eighties to an emphasis on the body, personal politics, political correctness, and identity.' He cites Matthew Barney as... (Ithaca Times, NY)

Tenner for your thoughts, Dinos?  Oct 11, 2007
" writes Bethan Huws, on one of those office messageboards with clip-on letters, which hangs on the wall of the Yvon Lambert stand at the Frieze art fair. Her plea is likely to go unheard. Signalling artistic frustration at those pesky know-nothing collectors who insist on buying things they don't understand, Huws - whose work is better known for its quietism, its lyrical quality - is a voice in the wilderness. And anyway, someone has probably bought the message by now. Frieze opens to the... (Guardian Unlimited)

Temptations of the Fair  Dec 25, 2006
It may be figurative or abstract and in any conceivable medium: a pleasantly ungainly painting by Peter Doig, a tiny sculpture by Tom Friedman, a video stunt by Tony Oursler. Not only is there no leading style; there is no noticeable friction between one style and another. (New Yorker)

The moving image maker  Dec 22, 2006
The exhibition from the Centre Pompidou in Paris traces the development of video art from its first appearance in the 1960s to today and features some of the earliest video artists such as the Korean artist Nam June Paik to contemporary artists such as Bill Viola, Jean-Luc Godard and Tony Oursler. "The Pompidou has easily the best video art collection in the world," Julien says. (Sydney Morning Herald -- Entertainment)

Institute of Contemporary Art  Dec 8, 2006
Fine Eyes by Tony Oursler shows hanging round spheres with blinking eyeballs projected onto them. Yoko Ono's (think John Lennon) 1966 Sky View brings the air space above the harbor indoors and onto a flat screen TV via a closed circuit camera stratgically positioned in the Founders Gallery. Dawn Clements draws viewers into her world  Oct 27, 2006
Since the gallery's opening, its walls, floor and ceiling - such is the brilliantly schizophrenic nature of contemporary art - have been decked with work by the vanguard likes of hyper-realist Joel Shapiro, video artist Tony Oursler and New Yorker cartoonist Edward Koren. Each exhibition explores new mediums, new subjects and new ways of looking at our world. (Middlebury College -- The Campus, VT)

Kim Gordon Crafts Film, Sonic Youth Preps Rarities...  Oct 26, 2006
"Perfect Parter," which Gordon assembled in tandem with artist Tony Oursler and director Phil Morrison, is a road movie reflecting her obsession with the ad copy in car brochures. "Ad copy is this existential, contemporary philosophy that doesn't mean anything," she tells Billboard. (Billboard.com)

Rogues target galleries  Sep 26, 2006
In Metro's case, the cameras are an apt addition, as it was the theft of a video projector from an installation by video artist Tony Oursler that prompted its security upgrade. Still, though a number of galleries are worried about being ripped off, some don't think there's much of a problem. (Yahoo News -- Art and Museums)

Visitors marvel at 'pure Arizona' look to Convention Center  Aug 27, 2006
The Million Colors creation by artist Tony Oursler is billed as a sort of surrealist dream sequence. Faces, symbols and sound float along the first-floor arcade as part of a story-telling video presentation. (AZCentral -- News)

Downtown gets new angle  Aug 26, 2006
But the added-value details of the atrium and the Temple of Dendur portal and the public art by Louise Bourgeois and Tony Oursler, make this a building that can be point of pride for the city, something that shows a little of what makes civilization: the will to make something better than it needs to be. Millions for public art  Jul 29, 2006
A second work, by Tony Oursler featuring five video projections on the floors, walls and ceiling of the convention center arcade, with imagery of places, people and landscapes of Phoenix is being installed next month. These are just two of the numerous creative projects that are funded by the Phoenix's Public Art Plan, which had a budget for 2006-07 of about $15. (AZCentral -- Entertainment)

Reviews: Around the Galleries  Jul 14, 2006
Beneath the entertaining gadgetry, however (which itself owes much to such pioneers as Alan Rath and Tony Oursler, and suffers by comparison), the substance of the work is rather thin, making it easy to breeze through with little more than an appreciative nod. "Lower Level," an installation by Jake Lee-High in the basement of the gallery, is subtler so subtle you could miss it if you didn't know it was there and considerably more evocative. (Los Angeles Times)

From fun all the way to fearsome  Jul 11, 2006

Aliens drop in to lend us a hand  Jan 7, 2006
But Tony Oursler soldiers on through the drizzle. Despite his expression, the New York video artist may even be having fun. (Sydney Morning Herald)
