    We see painted clay faces, whisk broom feet, rake-tine fringe and references to not only Picasso and William King, but also Romare Bearden and Strange Brew. Single characters, such as Figure with Red Umbrella, Masai Woman and Banjo Player are arresting and haunting, but it's the figures placed in a landscape -- Snake Charmer's Wife and Kneeling Kimono in My Garden -- that may strike the most satisfying chord with canvas-oriented viewers.
